Pressure sensor The pressure sensing device consists of an analogue MPX4115A which interfaces with the Basic stamp via an analogue to digital converter.
Compass The compass is a Hitachi HM55B compass module from Parallax which interfaces directly with the Basic stamp. The motors have an effect on the reading only if the compass is held directly beside it but appears to be unaffected several inches away.
Leak detection After much deliberation on how to build a liquid sensing device I eventually thought of a very simple method. It consists of one resistor. A 1 meg pull up resistor is connected to one of the Basic stamp input pins with a flying lead which is paired with a O volt lead. If liquid touches this pair the stamp input pin is taken down to zero volts. The stamp pin is monitored regularly by the programme and if it changes from 5 volts to zero the alarm is given on the GUI.
Thruster control Control of the thruster motors is by two dual MD22 5A motor speed controllers. These versatile controllers recieve a radio control type signal from the basic stamp which is easily manipulated by the stamp programme.
Camera The camera is connected to a video capture unit via one pair of the cat 5 cable and then to a USB input on the laptop to be displayed by the cam software.
